322: What you should do first when you get your student files
So I want to give you a list that will help you with filling these Files. First of all, go through all the parts of your student file. And by this, I mean every single one. Click every link and check all fine prints so that you won't miss anything important.
When you have all the papers in front of you, I suggest that you start by checking what you can't do – or the things that you don’t have much control of. This is important because it doesn't depend on you. It's easy to tell about yourself (about hobbies, diets, religion etc.) later on, but it's hard to get a time for the dentist too late. If you have some forms that you need your teacher to fill out or you need to go to the doctor’s for some basic doctor’s appointments, send papers, book times - then get those things out of the way first. Also, check your Immunization record and get the vaccinations you'll need for the country you will be spending your exchange year in.
Check your passport and how long you can still use it. I would not want to get into trouble at the airport...
Keep all the due dates in mind! You'll have a deadline to return all the documents for your Student File. Don't be late, because that can affect many things such as your leaving date, getting the nearest school in your exchange country and/or how quickly you get your host family.
Last but not least, tell the truth! I can't give you a good example but basically, don't say things about yourself that are not true, when filling out the forms. I hope you get what I mean. Because the truth will come out sooner or later.
Olen niin iloinen, kun voin sanoa täyttäneeni kaikki paperit! Ihan uskomatonta, kun on tullut niiden kanssa tapeltua niin pitkään... Kun sain kaksi kuukautta sitten ne käteeni, minulla ei ollut aavistustakaan kuinka paljon työtä niissä olisi. Ajattelin että kaksi kuukautta olisi aivan tarpeeksi. VÄÄRIN!
Haluan siis antaa sinulle vinkkejä jotka helpottavat omien hakupapereittesi täyttöä. Ensinnäkin, käy läpi jokaikinen kohta oppilaskansioistasi. Tällä tarkoitan aivan jokaista kohtaa. Avaa jokainen linkki ja tarkista pieninkin printti, jotta et ohita mitään.
Kun tiedät mitä sinulla on edessäsi, suosittelen, että aloitat tarkistamalla, mitä sinä et voi tehdä. Tämä on tärkeää, koska kyseiset asiat evät riipu sinusta. On helppoa kertoa itsestäsi (harrastukset, ruokavaliot, uskonto jne.) myöhemmin, mutta on hankalaa saada aika hammaslääkärille liian myöhään. Jos sinulla on jotain, mitä opettajasi pitäisi täyttää tai sinun pitää päästä lääkäriin, jotta saat lääkärin todistuksen, lähettää papereita muualle, varata aikoja niin hoida nämä pois alta mahdollisimman nopeasti. Tarkista myös rokotetietosi ja hanki rokotteet joita vaihtomaasi vaatii ajoissa.
Tarkista passisi ja sen voimassaoloaika. En haluaisi joutua ongelmiin lentokentällä...
Pidä päivämäärä mielessäsi! Sinulla tulee olemaan "deadline" eli aikaraja, jolloin sinun pitää palauttaa kaikki dokumentit oppilaskansioosi. Älä myöhästy, sillä se voi johtaa moniin ei-niin-kivoihin asioihin, kuten lähtöpäivääsi, saatko lähimmän koulun tai siihen, kuinka nopeasti saat vaihtoperheen.
Viimeisenä, puhu totta! En osaa antaa fiksua esimerkkiä, mutta periaatteessa älä sano itsestäsi asioita jotka eivät pidä paikkaansa. Totuus nimittäin tulee varmasti ilmi.
